Also known as: ACTH (4-7) Pro-Gly-Pro, Semax precursor
A heptapeptide consisting of the ACTH 4-7 fragment extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail, better known as the peptide Semax. It is studied as a nootropic and neuroprotective agent.

This peptide corresponds to Semax, in which the C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro motif markedly slows enzymatic degradation of the active ACTH(4-7) core. It has no corticotropic (steroidogenic) activity but retains the neurotropic effects of melanocortin fragments. It is reported to increase expression of BDNF and its receptor TrkB in the hippocampus and to modulate dopaminergic and serotonergic systems. These actions are associated with enhanced learning, attention and neuroprotection in animal and human studies.
