MIF-1 is a tripeptide (Pro-Leu-Gly-NH2) derived from oxytocin that acts as an allosteric modulator of central dopamine receptors, enhancing dopaminergic transmission. It is reported to potentiate dopamine receptor sensitivity and influence neuropeptide signaling without directly activating the receptor. Through these actions it shows antidepressant-like and anti-parkinsonian effects in experimental models. It was originally characterized for inhibiting release of melanocyte-stimulating hormone from the pituitary.
