If you spend any time in the research-peptide world, you quickly learn that the hardest part isn't the chemistry — it's the sourcing. The market is loosely regulated, labels can be optimistic, and a beautiful website tells you nothing about what's actually in the vial. Start With the Paper Trail: COAs and Third-Party Testing

- HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) estimates purity — what percentage of the material is your target compound versus byproducts. Many research-grade listings cite ≥98%, but the number only means something when tied to an actual chromatogram.
- Mass Spectrometry (MS) confirms identity by measuring molecular weight. It answers "is this the right molecule?" rather than "how clean is it?"
Ideally you want both: MS to confirm you have the intended peptide, and HPLC to confirm it's reasonably free of contaminants. A bare "99% pure" with no chromatogram or mass spec trace is marketing, not data.
Storage, Shipping, and Reconstitution Guidance
Peptides are fragile. How a vendor handles the physical product matters as much as the analytics.
- Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides are typically the most stable form for shipping and storage.
- Cold-chain or insulated shipping suggests the vendor takes degradation seriously, though short transit at ambient temperature is often acceptable for lyophilized powder.
- Clear storage instructions — for example, refrigeration or freezing of stock, and protection from light — indicate scientific literacy.
- Reconstitution information, such as recommended diluents (often bacteriostatic water) and handling notes, is a sign the vendor understands the workflow.

Reputation and Track Record
Documentation can be faked, so triangulate with reputation:

- Transparent business practices: a real address, responsive support, clear refund and reshipment policies
- Caution toward extraordinary claims — anyone promising a peptide "cures" or "treats" a disease is making a statement that is neither scientifically nor legally supportable
Be skeptical of pricing that's dramatically below the market. Genuine analytical testing and quality synthesis cost money.
The "Research Use Only" Legal Context
This is essential to understand. In the United States and many other jurisdictions, these compounds are sold as research chemicals and are not approved by the FDA for human use. Reputable vendors label products "for research use only" and "not for human consumption."
That language isn't a loophole — it reflects real regulatory status. These materials have not gone through the safety, purity, and efficacy review that approved drugs undergo. A vendor that ignores this framing, or markets products as though they were therapeutics, is operating outside responsible norms and should raise your suspicion immediately.
A Quick Vetting Checklist
- ✅ Batch-specific, third-party COA available before purchase
- ✅ Both HPLC purity and MS identity data, with actual traces
- ✅ Lyophilized product, sensible shipping, clear storage and handling notes
- ✅ Verifiable reputation and independent test history
