Vialox (pentapeptide-3) acts as a competitive antagonist at the postsynaptic acetylcholine receptor of the neuromuscular junction in the skin. By blocking acetylcholine binding it reduces muscle fiber contraction in the manner of a curare-like, topically applied agent. The resulting decrease in repeated micro-contractions is intended to smooth dynamic expression lines. Its activity is local and reversible, relying on continued application for a sustained cosmetic effect.
