Melanostatin DM is built around Nonapeptide-1, a sequence designed to antagonize the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) on melanocytes. By competing with alpha-MSH at MC1R it suppresses downstream cAMP signaling and microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) activation, reducing transcription of tyrosinase and related melanogenic enzymes. The net effect is decreased melanin synthesis and a more even, lighter skin tone with continued topical use.
