Cardiogen is a tetrapeptide (AEDR) proposed to act as a tissue-specific bioregulator by penetrating cells and binding regulatory regions of DNA to modulate gene expression in cardiomyocytes and vascular tissue. It is thought to normalize protein synthesis associated with myocardial cell maintenance and to support endothelial function. By promoting homeostatic gene expression in cardiac tissue, it is studied for slowing age-related decline in heart muscle function.
